501(C)3 Charitable Organization 26.5 Foundation: EIN 92-0605763
A renovated pool will provide expanded opportunities for the Fitchburg and the surrounding areas - more opportunities for children to learn to swim, much improved accessibility for handicapped and elderly people and even more pool time and space for other community groups to use the pool for health improving activities. The Seminole 2.0 committee determined that it would not be possible to achieve the renovation of the pool without a dedicated corporate structure that could both fundraise and safeguard this charitable mission. With that exclusive charitable purpose in mind, the Foundation was formed. The Foundation has agreed to raise charitable funds to support aspects of the pool renovation that will facilitate handicap-accessible features of the pool, underwrite pool memberships and swimming lessons for low-income families, and support an adaptive swimming program as follows:
To safeguard the accessibility of the renovated pool, the Foundation will support the following features of the renovation:
A new parking lot and drop off area featuring accessible stalls and a curb-less drop-off zone leading to the Pool House.
A fully-accessible Pool House featuring an ample entry sequence (with automatic doors as appropriate), flush entry showers with seating, accessible toilet stalls and an open changing area for ease of movement. Accessible drinking fountains and a high-low check-in counter are also featured.
Full accessibility to the pool is available from the drop-off area through the Pool House.
For added general and accessibility convenience, an accessible Family Restroom will be provided.
The pool will have a ramped, walk-in entry to the water to provide access for handicapped and elderly swimmers and those using the pool for recuperative benefits.
The snack bar will be fully-accessible for guests and swimmers.
To support the life-saving skill of swimming, the Foundation will support free swimming lessons to children each summer, to be determined based on available funds from the Foundation and the needs identified in collaboration with community partners such as:
Boys and Girls Clubs of Dane County
City of Fitchburg youth
Local elementary schools (i.e. Leopold)
YMCA
Shelley Glover Foundation
The Foundation will support a reduced-cost memberships to be determined in collaboration with Seminole Pool and community
The Foundation’s funds will facilitate an adaptive swimming program in which life guards are trained in the special needs of adaptive swimmers. Potential partners to identify adaptive swimmers could include: All-City Swim and Dive League and University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Pool will ensure there is a dedicated time each week for supervised adaptive open swim.
