UPDATES FROM SEMINOLE 2.0 - Member Email: Tuesday, November 28, 2023

Hello Seminole Members,

We're here with an update on what’s happening with Seminole 2.0.  It may be the offseason but fundraising and planning for our pool of the future continue.

TODAY IS GIVING TUESDAY!
If you didn't get a chance to give during the August Seminole 2.0 pledge drive, take the time to give today

THANK YOU, DONORS!
Thank you to all our generous donors to Seminole 2.0: See the complete list of all donors

WHERE WE STAND
We have secured about $430,000 in donations and pledges thanks to your generosity. While much work remains, we’re excited by our progress and committed to raising the necessary funds.

To break ground on a new Seminole pool in September 2024, we need to reach our fundraising goal of $2.9M by spring. The 2.0 team is working all channels to secure fundraising dollars, including grants, community partnerships, sponsorships, events, alumni outreach, and individual donors.

The estimated overall cost for our new pool and tennis facility is $6.5M. Of that amount, $2.5M will come from a bank loan, $800K from a capital improvement fee of current and future members, $300K from Board reserves, and the remaining amount from our fundraising.

One question we consistently receive is, “How can I help?” If you have community or professional connections to grant opportunities or know of possible sponsors, contact our Seminole 2.0 Chair, Rachel Holdener.  It’s going to take us all working together to realize a new pool for Seminole, but we’re confident with our combined efforts, we will reach our goal.

FEATURED FAQ
Each update will highlight an FAQ from our website. To view more Seminole 2.0 FAQs, visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Why build a new pool and tennis facility?

Pool and facilities are reaching the end of their useful life:
·      The pool shell is getting harder to repair. Replastering has a limited lifespan and can be expensive.
·      The locker room concrete walls need repair.
·      The pool mechanicals are old and many of the parts are not made anymore.
·      Replacements are costly or no longer available.
·      The tennis courts are cracked and need to be resurfaced.
·      The existing concrete deck has settled and has low spots. It does not drain appropriately.
·      Excessive tree debris clogs filters and requires staff maintenance.

·      The structure roofs are aged and deteriorating.
·      Pool capacity and programming limitations. Membership has maxed out in recent summers, and it is difficult to provide swim lessons to members while having an appropriate amount of open swim times available. A new layout of the pool (8 lanes and a separate diving well) would improve how the pool area is utilized.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Looking to help from home on your own schedule? We need volunteers for the following roles:
Alumni outreach: Continue to compile data from previous rosters and help organize and prioritize outreach to alumni.
Grants: Research available grants and apply for them on behalf of the 26.5 Foundation.
Both roles will be partnered with a current Seminole 2.0 committee member.

If you have an idea for a fundraising event or would like to help organize one, please contact Rachel Holdener, our Seminole 2.0 Chair. We welcome enthusiastic and creative volunteers to help plan and run fundraising events this winter.
